How to separate MLM work from your home life
It's no secret that MLM business-owners experience unique benefits that most of the working population never discover. They work out of their own homes. They set their own hours. They have no bosses, schedules, or commute. In essence, they run their businesses however and whenever they want.
But unfortunately for many new MLMers, this freedom takes some time to get used to.
Ultimately, when people leave their jobs to run their MLM business full-time, their home life immediately becomes intertwined with their work life. This can cause a lot of disruptions, distractions and turbulence, both for the business and the family. The stay-at-home mom might begin to focus more time on recruiting, rather than her kids. Or, on the opposite side of the spectrum, perhaps Dad starts to take on too many hobbies at home while the business (and income) slowly fades away.
The key to successfully organizing your MLM business and home life is finding ways to separate the two. Take a look at some of the tips below to see how you can find a happy medium between work and home life.
Set a schedule.
You may have hated following a schedule at your job, but if you're having problems finding your work-life balance, then it's crucial that you organize the hours at home too. The good news is, you can choose whatever hours you want – as long as you stick to them. Creating a schedule will allow you to set aside specific times of the day for work and non-work.
The key here is to balance it appropriately. Don't overdo it on either end. Remember the happy feeling you used to get at the end of the work day? Setting a schedule will allow you to enjoy that feeling throughout the day – from the motivation you get from the MLM business during the day, to the feeling of a “job well done” later on. The most important thing is to stick to your schedule as much as possible.
Take some days off.
If you're working hard, making progress with your MLM business, reward yourself with some extra days off, in addition to the weekend. Although it goes against the schedule you may have already created, think of it like a vacation day you would have taken at a normal job. Taking off will allow you to enjoy your free time even more and will give you some time to re-energize for when you return to work.
Take breaks during the day.
Just like your old employer used to say (or should have said), you should be taking several short breaks throughout the day, including one large one for lunch. Don't eat in front of the computer screen. Eat in another room and allow yourself some time to unwind. Turn on the TV, exercise, take a walk – do whatever it takes to clear your mind before going back to your MLM work.
Turn off your phone and email at the end of the day.
If you're done for the day, keep it that way. Don't let a phone call or email stop you from enjoying a night away from your MLM business. Shut off your cell phone (or turn off your home phone's ringer), and shut down your computer. Any voicemail messages or emails can wait until the next day.
Keep all appointments, prospecting calls, three-ways and other meetings during work hours.
Why work more than you have to? Save yourself from becoming overworked by scheduling your appointments during the work day. This includes all calls with MLM leaders, prospects and team members. Being finished with all your meetings by the end of the day will allow you to enjoy every night without an ounce of stress or worry about work.
