How To Find Silver Coins?
Perhaps only coin collectors know the answer to this question. But its amazing that 40% of silver clad half dollars in still circulation today. The simplest way is perhaps to approach the banks and loan companies. You could easily buy rolls of halves for just $10.00. The more you buy, th more chances of finding ones made made years ago.
90% of U.S. silver dimes, quarters, halves and dollars made in 1964 or before are silver. The later Kennedy half dollars from 1965 to 1970 are only 40% silver. The 1970 half dollar is a very rare peice to find as they are not in circulation. They are the premium ones. Sometimes coins ar stolen just to be used to buy normal things. Thats a shame that such precious metals are dealt for drugs sometimes.
None of the Half dollars after 1970 have any silver. There is an exception to this - the proof and mint sets meant only for collectors.
If you have been doing coin collection for many years, you would have bought and sold heaps of coins. 40% silver halves are the common ones and the premium ones are still the 90% halves. Small town banks are another great place for collectors. The country always have something different to offer.
Every time you buy some, ask them if they can send you more in the future. Most people hate coins in their tills because people generally use quarters for making change.
If you have plenty of halves with no silver, either return them to the bank or trade them for groceries and stuff. You should be doing this constantly without losing hope.
Other ways to improve are to visit your local coin shop or opp shops and see what they have. Go to museums and join coin collectors club. You must have a Red Book - A Guidebook of United States Coins. Subscribe to coin paper like Coin World from Coin World, Sidney, Ohio 45367.
